Arneis is a white wine grape variety from northern Italy. In the past it was used extensively as a blending wine to temper the fierce tannins of other wines.
Following a period in the 1960’s and early 1970’s when the variety almost became extinct, it was revived by a number of producers who recognized its potential as a standalone varietal wine.
This release is our first of this variety, using exclusively fruit from the di Lusso Estate.
The fruit was machine harvested at close to full ripeness. It was crushed, pressed, cold settled and the clear juice separated from the solids by racking. The juice was fermented with an aromatic yeast at cool temperatures in stainless steel.
The wine was then stabilized and clarified prior to bottling in August 2015.
The wine is true to its varietal characteristics, with aromas of pear, stone fruit and almonds. Despite its ripeness, the palate has food matching acidity, the flavours of pineapple and sweet grapefruit are persistent and the medium-bodied palate long and clean.
A simply constructed wine to enjoy with a wide range of dishes, from seafood risotto to Moroccan chicken and spicy southern Mediterranean salads.
