Many of Italy’s finest vignerons have been releasing varietal Chardonnays for over forty years.
In 1994 the grape gained DOC status - the only non-native variety to do so.
This is our first release of the Mudgee region’s premier white variety, made with fruit from two leading local growers.
Vintage 2014 was a very warm one, reflected in the body and strength of this wine. The fruit was machine harvested. It was then crushed, pressed and the clear juice separated from the solids by racking. Approximately 33% of the wine was placed in a new French oak puncheon, where it matured for seven months before bottling in December 2014.
This is a big one…not intentionally but because of ‘vintage logistics’ (in other words, because we could not get access to the site when we wanted to. Nevertheless, through careful intervention we have produced what we call a ‘gentle giant’. Almond and hazelnut aromas give way to a long, full-bodied palate of dried tropical fruits and just a hint of butter.
