Barbera is Italy's second most planted red wine grape variety – behind only Sangiovese. Barbera has been grown in Mudgee for 30 years Di Lusso Estate has a small vineyard block of Barbera on the property and the 2002 vintage was the first release.
Barbera is grown throughout Italy and official ranks as Italy's second most planted red wine grape variety – behind only Sangiovese. However, it performs best in Piedmonte where it traditionally has played second fiddle to the great Nebbiolos of Barolo and Barbaresco. In recent years, winemakers in Piedmonte have been treating Barbera with much greater respect and there are some stunning wines now being produced in Asti and Alba.
Barbera has been grown in Mudgee for 30 years ( introduced by the late Carlo Carino) and we believe these to be the first planting of the variety in Australia. Di Lusso Estate has a small vineyard block of Barbera on the property and the 2009 vintage was our eighth release (and the third under screw cap).
