There is the modern tradition in Italy for producers to produce wines that are commonly referred to as 'Super Tuscans'. These wines are quite often Sangiovese, the principal indigenous variety, blending with various imported varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and/or Shiraz. Di Lusso Estate has taken up the challenge of this progressive winemaking blend to produce its 'SuperMudgee'.
This release of the 2010 il Palio is a blend of Sangiovese, Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon. Red berries and earthiness are well supported by sweet vanilla and cedary oak. Certainly this is a more complex, full-bodied wine than the varietal Sangiovese — a nice contrast in style. This wine will develop further complexity with bottle age.
Approximately 8.3 standard drinks, 14.3% alcohol.
