Picolit is an extremely rare variety from Colli Orientali in Friuli in Italy’s north-east. It is rare because the variety suffers from floral abortion at flowering in spring (making Picolit a tough economic proposition).
Di Lusso is one of only a handful of vineyards growing Picolit in Australia, and has not escaped this syndrome. Yields have been inconsistent (there was absolutely no crop in 2004). Considerable effort has gone into ensuring some fruit in subsequent years, and the 2006 crop was a record four tons from our one acre block.
