Picolit is an extremely rare variety from Colli Orientali in Friuli in Italy’s north-east. It is rare because the variety suffers from floral abortion at flowering in spring (making Picolit a tough economic proposition).
Di Lusso is one of only a two offering a varietal Picolit in Australia, and has not escaped this unfortunate feature. Yields have been inconsistent (there was absolutely no crop in 2004). Considerable effort has gone into ensuring some fruit in subsequent years - the 2006 crop was a record four tons from our one acre block – with only one ton of fruit picked in 2009
