Viticulture and Harvest

The 2021 Vino Rosato is our classic rosé, made from the first run juice from our Sangiovese. The vines were fruit thinned prior to versaison (colour development) so as to increase the intensity of fruit flavour. The fruit was machine harvested in early February.

Winemaking

The di Lusso Estate 2021 Vino Rosato was made in two batches. The first batch was made using  the French saigné method, where free run Sangiovese juice was captured at harvest and immediately vinified and bottled.The fruit is crushed and pressed, with the free run and pressings components kept separate. The juice  fermented in steel with an aromatic yeast at a low temperature to preserve ferment characters.

The current wine is the second bottling of Rosato this season and to balance the colour of the Rosé, small amounts of Vermentino and Fiano were added to the Sangiovese (which is a red wine).

Tasting Notes

Vino Rosato is our classic rosé. The current wine is made using 85% Sangiovese and small portions of white wine (to get the right colour.. Light and fresh, with a dry finish, the wine delivers lifted flavours of spicy cherry and strawberry. A great lunch time wine for red meats, especially vitello tonnato. For my taste, the colder, the better, on a hot day!
